Mandala
Large drawings, pencil and ink on paper, Master of Arts of Université de Strasbourg, 2001-2002.
Fascinated by Tibetan mandalas, I initially created paintings attempting to reproduce them while introducing some personal graphic elements.
In hindsight, these paintings seemed too decorative to me, with a kind of aesthetic exoticism that didn’t suit me. And must be said : facing the concepts of buddhism, it was close to a masquerade…
I gradually detached myself from the model, seeking for something more honest, less self-interested, as humble as I could… eventually creating abstract drawings that retain only the basic structure of the mandala made of concentric circles and squares.
